Philosophy
Winemaker, Daniel Moore, uses 30 vintages of experience to craft wines of great depth and complexity. Over the years his style has remained true to his vision—that the wines have balance, elegance and finesse. Early in his career Daniel was exposed to great wine from all over the world. Memorable bottlings, such as 1978 DRC La Tache and 1981 Roederer Cristal, were consumed at restaurants like Boonville Hotel and Domain Chandon where the food was as amazing as the wine. Daniel's style is a direct result of those food and wine experiences where wine and great food were consumed as perfect foils to each other. "I believe that great wine is at its best when accompanied by food," Moore says. "As a winemaker, I drink almost all of my wine with food. If I'm not having food, I'm likely drinking tequila!"
Vineyards
Our premier Roller Coaster Vineyard is situated south of the Russian River as it bends west toward the Pacific Ocean. Owner SaraLee Kunde affords us the luxury of viticultural control allowing us to weigh in on all farming decisions. This partnership is a cornerstone of quality which allows our pinot noir to exhibit a great sense of place. The vineyard gets its name from the rapid change in elevation from top to bottom as well as the big undulation between the blocks. We choose to source fruit from vineyards west of the Laguna de Santa Rosa between Sebastopol and Forestville in the cooler parts of the Russian River Valley.
Production
We are fortunate to produce our [1000] cases at the Laguna Oaks production facility in Sebastopol, the heart of the Russian River Valley. Owned by John Balletto of Balletto Vineyards, the facility is geared toward super-premium pinot noir production, allowing for ultimate small batch control. Stylistically, we are looking for an expression of pinot noir that exemplifies the elegance and structure we love in our favorite red Burgundies while capitalizing on the rich fruit flavors that our geography has to offer. Our production philosophy relies on low-tech Old World production techniques. Ultimately, it is the winemaker's attention to minute details of the process that nets the expression of style and place you enjoy in our offerings. |
