Location, Location, Location. Pic Saint Loup is considered by many to be the finest appellation in the Languedoc. Although only 14 miles inland from the Mediterranean, Lancyre’s vineyards are at 1500 feet in elevation and are surrounded on 3 sides by the Cevennes Mountains, which are 3000 feet or more in elevation. Days are as hot as the coast, but cooling mountain air pours down at night. Harvests in the Languedoc and the southern Rhone begin in early September. Harvest in Pic Saint Loup (and the northern Rhone) begins in early October. This long growing season results in finesse more like Hermitage or Cote Rotie than Chateau neuf–du-Pape.
The 2003 Vieilles Vignes is a concentrated, unoaked, cherry and raspberry nuanced blend of 65% Syrah and 35% Grenache. This is the wine to serve with your favorite recipes now or to cellar for added complexity and enjoyment.
| Tasting notes |
| “Concentrated, plush red, with loads of juicy dark plum, cherry and raspberry flavors that are joined by vanilla and French roast on the finish. A fine match for roasted lamb.”
