Mollydooker Shiraz Carnival Of Love 2010

Mollydooker Shiraz Carnival Of Love 750ML 2010
Sku: 14781

Dark opaque violet with deep crimson hue, this wine bursts from the glass a dense melange of berry fruits, dark plum, licorice, and fragrant spice. The palate displays layers of sweet fruit with creamy mocha oak, black pepper hints and superbly balanced tannins, seeming to last for an eternity. Our whole family is involved in making our wines, and all the wonderful people who drink them become our friends, so we named this wine Carnival of Love, because the wines bring us together. If you look closely you will notice that the Lefty characters are all included in the label and when you join the Carnival of Love and the Enchanted Path together, the two labels form one beautiful continuous love story.

Review
Carnival of Love is one of the few great Aussie Shirazes priced less than $100. Mollydooker owners Sarah and Sparky Marquis buy the grapes from the Gateway Vineyard, a property planted in 2000. They aim for 4 tons per acre from the site, but severe drought in 2007 reduced yields by nearly half. The wine finished primary fermentation in barrel to better integrate the flavors and tannins of the 100 percent new American oak.

Produced of 100% Shiraz from a single vineyard, the 2010 Carnival of Love was aged in American oak, 97% new. Very deep purple-black in color, it is intensely scented of blueberry preserves, creme de cassis and warm black cherries with an undercurrent of baking spices, licorice, mocha, vanilla, toast and eucalypt. Very full and densely packed with warm blackberry and spice flavors on the palate, it has a solid structure of medium to firm velvety tannins and very crisp acid, giving way to a very long finish. Still quite tight and primary, it should drink best 2014 to 2023+.
 Wine Spectator 94 points (Feb 29 2012)
Dense, rich and distinctive, this is superplush and complex, yet also approachable, wrapping its black cherry, cassis, licorice and roasted meat flavors on a supple, velvety frame. Finishes long and creamy in texture. Drink now through 2020. 6,328 cases made. –HS Rated #98 in Wine Spectator’s 2012 Top 100
