Marietta Cellars Old Vine Red Lot Number 58

Marietta Cellars Old Vine Red Lot Number 58 750ML

Marietta Cellars is located just outside the town of Geyserville in Sonoma County. Owner and winemaker Chris Bilbro founded Marietta Cellars in 1978 in a rented cow barn in the Dry Creek Valley. He named the winery after his great aunt Marietta - a tough Italian immigrant who was known for always having a stock pot on the stove, a bountiful garden, and a plentiful table. Not having children of her own, she took Chris under her wing and taught him how to cook and to taste, which is a direct correlation to Chris’ winemaking style. The wines of Marietta Cellars are a personification of Chris Bilbro, his outlook on life, and his general lifestyle. To this day, no wine gets bottled without Chris’s approval and no vineyard row goes more than a week without Chris riding his ATV through it. He produces wines of incredible consistency, both in quality and price, with relative anonymity. The Bilbro family winemaking tradition is now in its second generation. The majority of the day to day operations are handled by Chris’s three eldest sons, Jake, Scot, and Sam. Brothers by blood and best friends by choice, they’re all dedicated to the dream that Chris started in 1978. “For over three decades one of the greatest values in dry California red wine has been the non-vintage kitchen sink blend from the Bilbro’s family-owned MariettaCellars…This wine flies off retailers shelves, so smart consumers take note. Tasting notes
Bright, ripe notes of berries and red florals meet pronounced flavors of sweet baking spices, red and black fruits and hints of earth. Medium-firm tannins provide structure and balanced acidity lends lift to the long finish.

Wine maker notes
Old Vine Red is our modern California version of an Old World table wine - one that can be enjoyed with food or without, for a special occasion or for simple pleasure. It is a non-vintage blend of mostly Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, and Carignane with small amounts of other varieties included for complexity. Old Vine Red is a delicious, well-made, textured and balanced wine that continues to be amazingly consistent 30 years after the first lot was released.

Technical notes
Marietta’s version of a traditional field blend, the fruit for this Zinfandel based blend was harvested from vineyards in Sonoma and Mendocino.
