Flaco, which means "dude” in English, is a wine made from Spain's signature grape with character that belies its price. The head-pruned vineyards are in the Arganda district, southeast of Madrid, on clay over granite subsoil at 2,400 feet elevation. Madrid is, as yet, a largely unknown region – hence its ability to deliver over-performing wines that represent incredible value in today's market. The region's southern Continental climate of hot days and cool nights insures a gradual, balanced maturation of the fruit. Usually harvested in mid-September, it is macerated, fermented and aged in a combination of stainless steel and cement tanks to emphasize the Tempranillo's youthful purity of flavor. Its luscious fruit and soft texture make it a perfect wine to drink everyday on its own or to use as the basis for a high quality Sangria.
