Clos de L'Oratoire Saint-Emilion 2003

Clos de L'Oratoire Saint-Emilion 750ml 2003
Sku: 1353456*

Clos de l’Oratoire is located on Saint-Emilion’s north-east slope. The 10.32 hectares of vines grow on Fronsac molasse covering a layer of sand with a clay subsoil. This terroir is ideally suited to the blend of Merlot (90%), Cabernet Franc (5%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%) grapes. Merlot contributes roundness and opulence to the wine, whereas Cabernet Franc is responsible for power, aromatic complexity, and length. With its pronounced fruity aromas and beautiful deep crimson colour, Clos de l’Oratoire is a smooth, soft, very seductive wine. Despite its tremendous ageing potential, Clos de l’Oratoire is nevertheless enjoyable seven years after the vintage.

Wine Advocate 88 points (Apr 2006)
This vintage is not as promising as hoped based on previous vintages. Licorice, herb, and stewed vegetable-like characteristics make an appearance in this dark plum/garnet-colored effort. Although well-made, medium-bodied, and evolved, with sweet fruit, and a superficial charm, it lacks depth and delineation. Obviously, this vineyard suffered from the vintage’s heat. Drink the 2003 over the next 7-8 years.
