EQ Chardonnay 2009

EQ Chardonnay 750ml 2009
Sku: 1662814*

Established in 1999, Matetic is owned and operated by Jorge and Cristian Matetic. These wines were named EQ as a tongue-incheek reminder that wines are meant to be in equilibrium. With EQ, Jorge and Cristian produce wines that are balanced, foodfriendly and meant for the every day. The biodynamically farmed, certified organic vineyards are located in Rosario Valley, a sub-appellation of the San Antonio Valley, Chile. There are two distinct types of soil in the valley – on the hillsides, thin red-brick topsoils cover a thin layer of clay and decomposed. On the valley floor, soils have a deeper layer of granite and red clay that is covered by a layer of dark soils. The fruit is hand-picked and estate bottled. Winemaker Paula Cardena Saez began as an assistant for Errazuriz and William Cole Vineyards. She is assisted by winemaker Julio Bastias and consultant Ken Bernards.

The 2009 EQ Chardonnay waspartially native fermented and aged sur lie with batonnage in 26% new French oak for 10 months. Rounder, toastier, and a bit richer than the Coralillo cuvee, on the palate it displays ample tropical fruits, peach, and butterscotch leading to a long, fresh finish. Drink this top-flight effort over the next 4-5 years.

Ripe and lush, featuring mango, pineapple and yellow apple fruit offset nicely by honeysuckle and chamomile hints that frame the finish. Drink now. 1,280 cases made. –JM
