EQ Chardonnay 2009

EQ Chardonnay 750ml 2009
Sku: 1662814*

Established in 1999, Matetic is owned and operated by Jorge and Cristian Matetic. The biodynamically farmed, certified organic vineyards are located in Rosario Valley, a subdivision of San Antonio Valley. There are two distinct types of soil in the valley - on the hillsides the soil is redbrick in color, thin, with a superficial layer of clay and decomposed granite below. On the valley floor, the soil composition has a deeper layer of granite, red clay on top over a layer of darker colored soil. The fruit is hand-picked and estate bottled. Winemaker Paula Cardena Saez began as an assistant for Errazuriz and William Cole Vineyards. She is assisted by winemaker Julio Bastias and consultant Ken Bernards.

The 2009 EQ Chardonnay was partially native fermented and aged sur lie with batonnage in 26% new French oak for 10 months. Rounder, toastier, and a bit richer than the Coralillo cuvee, on the palate it displays ample tropical fruits, peach, and butterscotch leading to a long, fresh finish. Drink this top-flight effort over the next 4-5 years.

Ripe and lush, featuring mango, pineapple and yellow apple fruit offset nicely by honeysuckle and chamomile hints that frame the finish. Drink now. 1,280 cases made. –JM
