Over the last decade, Michel Laroche has made a marked commitment to terroirs of distinction
outside of France. In 2005, he acquired L'Avenir Wine Estate. Located in Stellenbosch, South
Africa, L'Avenir is a 158 acre estate with 72 acres planted to vine. The L'Avenir vineyards have a
significant number of Pinotage and Chenin Blanc old vines which produce low yields of
phenolically ripe grapes.
| Tasting notes |
| Offers round and ample fruit backed by bright acidity and a savory
finish. |
| Technical notes |
| The Chenin Blanc vines are planted in two parcels, one is 38 years old and the other is six years
old, on northwest facing slopes. The older vineyard is planted to clay with sandy topsoils; the other
is comprised of decomposed shale. The fruit was fermented in stainless steel with skin contact for
two weeks and aged sur lie. |
