Michel & Stephane Ogier Syrah de Seyssuel L'Ame Soeur 2009

Michel & Stephane Ogier Syrah de Seyssuel L'Ame Soeur 750ml 2009
Sku: 1770490*

Stephane has been purchasing vineyards on the other side of the Rhone River in Seyssuel, near Vienne. His newest wine comes from these southwest-facing slopes, which have soils much like those of the Cote Brune. Stephane believes the potential to be extraordinary, and you can see the excitement in his face as he talks about the vineyard. Called l’Âme Soeur (soul mate in French) this Vin de Pays is 100% Syrah fermented and aged in cask, of which about ½ is new oak. Beautiful-balance, silky texture and loads of rich black fruits, the l’Âme Soeur has a smoky, spicy palate and very long finish.

The 2009 Syrah l’Ame Soeur VDP reveals great complexity with notes of lard, licorice, bay leaf, black raspberries and black currants. It possesses an expansive, savory mouthfeel, supple tannins, beautiful elegance and a style that could easily pass for a Cote Rotie in a blind tasting. This beauty should drink well for 7-8 years. This up and coming area of Seyssuel now has over 13 vignerons working on about 100 acres of vines.
