Wine Advocate 92 points (Oct 2010) The 2005 Chance is impressive. A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc that is only being released now, the Chance emerges with a wonderful bouquet of grilled herbs, menthol, smoke, cedar and dark fruit, all of which resonate on the palate. This shows notable delineation and depth, with an attractive roundness to the fruit that flows through to the finish. The finish tapers off just a touch, which is the only thing that keeps the score from going higher, but I suspect that will be less of a problem in more favorable vintages. This is a great example of the exuberant, juicy reds being made in the province of Grosseto, in the southern part of Maremma. The 2005 Chance spent a total of 48 months in oak and bottle prior to being released. It is a fabulous effort from Poggioverano. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020. Wine Spectator 90 points (May 31 2011) Deep and rich, this red boasts black cherry, black currant, licorice and spice aromas and flavors. Polished and international in style, with some serious tannins providing grip. Offers nice balance and length. Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2018. 1,000 cases made. –BS |
