Joseph Drouhin Gevrey Chambertin 2011

Joseph Drouhin Gevrey Chambertin 750ml 2011
Sku: 1838002*

Tasting notes
In general rule, gevrey-chambertin shows a pretty color ruby, lively and brilliant. One notes the beautiful "legs" on the partition of the glass. The flavors are fruity and typical intensément of this name: wild ripe, black cherry. Flavors of wooded are fine and subtly married. The evolution in bottles brings more complexity to the nose, spicier grades of nutmeg and leather before evoking mushroom scents.

(from purchased grapes and wine): Bright dark red. Candied dark berries, dark chocolate, licorice and minerals on the nose; rather Vosne-like. Supple, sweet and nicely ripe, showing an almost creamy texture but limited definition. Finishes with ripe tannins and a lingering, restrained sweetness. 87-89 Points

The 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin Village, which includes 20-30% Premier Cru fruit, has a lovely, very elegant bouquet with plenty of rounded raspberry and strawberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a soft entry. It is slightly lower in acidity, very approachable and is bestowed a finish that slips down the throat. You’ll finish a bottle faster than you think. Drink now-2015.

Graphite and floral notes enhance the pure cherry flavor in this well-defined red. Firm yet long on the finish. Very elegant and charming. Best from 2015 through 2024.—B.S.

Technical notes
Site: located in the north of the Cote de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin is world-famous, not only for its superlative Grand Crus, but also for all its other vineyards. History & tradition: Gevrey is of course the village where the Grand Cru vineyard Chambertin is located. Vines have been cultivated here since 630AD, when a certain Bertin decided to emulate the monks, his neighbors. The wine he made turned out to be spectacular - and the rest is history! Soil: lean and chalky, with a red-brown cover layer of clayey marl.

Food pairing
Serve with red meats (roasted or in sauces, beef or game), poultries in stew or with mushrooms or cheeses refined.. A gevrey-chambertin must be able to preserve itself, following his top of the line of 12 to 20 years but one can appreciate it in his youth, all in force and in fruit.
