Michel & Stephane Ogier Syrah de Seyssuel L'Ame Soeur 2010

Michel & Stephane Ogier Syrah de Seyssuel L'Ame Soeur 1.50L 2010
Sku: 1843155*

Stephane has been purchasing vineyards on the other side of the Rhone River in Seyssuel, near Vienne. His newest wine comes from these southwest-facing slopes, which have soils much like those of the Cote Brune. Stephane believes the potential to be extraordinary, and you can see the excitement in his face as he talks about the vineyard. Called lme Soeur (soul mate in French) this Vin de Pays is 100% Syrah fermented and aged in cask, of which about is new oak. Beautiful-balance, silky texture and loads of rich black fruits, the lme Soeur has a smoky, spicy palate and very long finish.

The 2010 Syrah lAme Soeur Vin de Pays is a must purchase if you can find any of the 8,000 bottles produced. To reiterate what I wrote about the 2011, this vin de pays is a dead-ringer for Guigals La Mouline. An astonishing bouquet of spring flowers, forest floor, blackberries, kirsch, coffee and spice box soars from the glass of this incredibly perfumed wine. Made from 100% destemmed fruit, it is opulent, full-bodied, and must be tasted to be believed. Ogier used about 20% new oak. It should drink nicely for 7-8 years.

Presents a steeped black tea note out front, followed by macerated dark plum, bramble, anise and mesquite notes. Juicy in feel, this stays restrained enough, with a lingering finish. Drink now through 2015.J.M.
