Zind-Humbrecht Gewurztraminer 2012

Zind-Humbrecht Gewurztraminer 750ml 2012
Sku: 1848893*

The Humbrecht family has been winegrowers in Alsace since 1620 but the Domaine came by its current name when Leonard Humbrecht married Genevieve Zind in 1959. Located in the heart of the Herrenweg vineyard, Leonard significantly expanded the family’s holdings to include an enviable collection of Grand Cru and other high quality vineyards. The Domaine is currently managed by Leonard’s son, Olivier Humbrecht, the only Alsacian winemaker to attain M.W. status. A staunch advocate for biodynamic farming, Olivier tailors every aspect of viticulture and winemaking based on terroir. Whether a single vineyard or a blend, place and vintage are clearly and unmistakably expressed in each wine.

Tasting notes
In 2012, the grapes were quite healthy and sugar development was slow – the result is a completely dry, nicely floral, delicate Gewurztraminer that is already showing good drinkability. Indice 1

Dry and focused, this mineral-driven version offers lots of ground white pepper and ginger notes, with an open-knit mesh of crunchy apricot, lychee, grapefruit zest and melon rind. Drink now through 2020.—A.N.

Technical notes
Most of the fruit for this wine was harvested from Herrenweg, a vineyard located on the valley floor. The vines are 33 years old on average and were planted on gravelly soils of marl and limestone.
