Alma Negra M Blend 2012

Alma Negra M Blend 750ml 2012
Sku: 1893176*

The M in this wine’s name represents the word Mendoza and indicates that this is a blend of varietals from Mendoza, Argentina. It also pays tribute to the overlying guise of Mystery that is Alma Negra. Predominantly Bonarda, this blend changes from vintage to vintage and is the wineries primary cuvee.

(bonarda and malbec): Saturated medium ruby. Brooding aromas of blackberry, black pepper and licorice. Densely packed and supple, displaying a distinctly salty quality to the flavors of black fruits and nutty oak. A bit rustic but showing plenty of early personality. In a plush, sweet style, with no hard edges. Finishes with rich, spicy tannins and very good length.

A real discovery for me, this Mendoza winery has turned out an absolutely sensational blend of Bonarda and Malbec to create the Alma Negra 2012 M Blend. Offering up loads of deep black cherry, strawberry and blackberry fruit, a hint of spring flowers, terrific texture, a medium-bodied mouthfeel and silky opulence, this is a gorgeous wine from vineyards at a 3,600-foot elevation. The Bonarda seems to give the wine an uplifted fruit quality and the Malbec a more serious density and richness. This is a big-time winner and also a great package, since Alma Negra means “Black Soul,” and the picture on the label is indeed sinister. Drink it over the next 1-2 years.
