Mercouri Estate Kallisto 750ml 2013

The 2013 Kallisto is an unoaked 80-20 blend of Assyrtiko and Robola, coming in at 13.5% alcohol. This always arrives with its sibling, the Foloi (mostly Roditis) also reviewed this issue. Given the grape blend, this is typically deeper, more powerful and more concentrated. This year that is still true, perhaps, but not by as big a margin, and this has an understated feel. To be sure, last year many of the whites seemed to be on the fatter side. Like its sibling in this vintage, this white makes its bones with its glorious tank-aged purity, finishing with flavor as its tasty, young fruit gets laced into the palate. The Robola is the smallest portion of the blend, but it lends flavor to the finish. This will age better than the Foloi, but it is still a wine best enjoyed fresh and young, so take note. There were 8,000 bottles produced. Drink now-2017
