This wine is from Argentina, Cuyo region, Mendoza sub-region. Catena Alta Malbec is sourced from Lot 18 of the Angelica vineyard, located in Lunlunta (2,850' elevation), Lot 4 from the La Piramide vineyard, located in Agrelo (3,100' elevation), Lot 2 from the La Consulta vineyard, located in La Consulta (3,000' elevation), and Lots 3 & 9 from the Adrianna vineyard, located in Gualtallary (4,725' & 4,600' elevations). This wine undergoes a demanding selection process in both the vineyard and the winery.. I devoted nearly a full day to tasting at the Catena Zapata winery in Agrelo as Argentina's #1 producer offers excellent to otherworldly wines at a range of price points-and that's not even including the superb wines made by Nicolas Catena's daughter Laura and son Ernesto, and the Bodega Aleanna label of his own multi-talented winemaker Alejandro Vigil. - From Argentina's Wines Enter the World Stage (Jul 2018) by Stephen Tanzer. A Malbec from Mendoza made from a selection of parcels in different terroirs in Primera Zona and the Uco Valley that spent 18 months in French oak, this is complexity in a bottle. The ripe, layered, evolving nose delivers plum and violet notes followed by a hint of acidic cherry over a woody backdrop. Fleshy on the palate, it offers the good grip and volume typical of Malbec as part of a satisfying combination that also includes a terse texture and juicy freshness. MALBEC Wine
