Powers John's Lane Release is a Single Pot Still whiskey that celebrates the origin of the Powers Whiskey tradition and provides a glimpse of the whiskey style that made Powers famous. The distillate has been matured for no less than 12 years, mainly in American Oak casks with a small inclusion of Iberian Oak for balance and complexity and then married to create the distinctive honey and spice flavor of Powers.. Brooding, primal, and robust thanks to its fat, rolling, oily notes, slightly fermenting Bramley apples, oolong tea, green banana, hint of sherry, and purposeful delivery of allspice, peppercorns, and star anise. The fruit and chocolate stay one step ahead of the spices; orange, chocolate, coffee, apricot, boiled candy, marmalade on buttered toast, and barley sugar meet a finish of heavier spices, bitter chocolate, and dusty cocoa. Unmistakable, epic whiskey.Reviewed by: Jonny McCormick (Winter 2018)
A dark, moody, almost Scotch-like take on Irish whiskey. The concentrated aroma suggests caramel and vanilla. Meanwhile, the velvety palate starts at caramel but quickly deepens to dark chocolate, molasses and coconut, teased at the edges by campfire smoke and mint, finishing with anise and black pepper heat. Think of s'mores held a little too long at the fire and you get the idea.
The aromas of honey roasted apples and toasted walnuts draw in the senses. A sip reveals a luscious array of ripe tropical fruit flavors kissed and rounded out by oaky vanilla and spice, bringing to mind honey biscuits and ginger snaps. Memorable and complex. - 2019 Ultimate Spirits Challenge (Extraordinary, Ultimate Recommendation). Water, barley, maize; 46.00%. We might be precise about the way we make our whiskey, but we're much more relaxed about how it's enjoyed. Whatever works for you is fine by us. Whether it's served neat, on the rocks or mixed, there's now more ways than ever to enjoy Powers. Our cocktails have been inspired by famous 19th century recipes to enhance and work in harmony with our distinctive flavors.. Nose: An abundance of earthy aromas, leather, tobacco with layers of charred wood, dark chocolate and treacle toffee.Taste: Full bodied spice front followed by vanilla, honey and dried apricot. Lingering honey sweetness on toasted oak on the finish. Liquor
