In the second half of the 19th century, their village of Traben-Trarbach in the middle-Mosel, had matured into the second most important trading place for wine on earth, second only to Bordeaux. The wines come from the highly regarded vineyards of Trabener Wurzgarten and Enkircher Steffensberg, which are based upon Devonian slate, with South and Southwest exposures.
