His son, Edmond Rozès, created the brand "Porto Rozès", choosing at the same time a "Portuguese bottle shape" that would simultaneously allow the brand and port to be identified. Rozès was the first Port Wine exporting group to settle in the Douro Valley, one of the oldest AOC in the world (demarcated in 1756) and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. Rozès has a
centuries-old history linked to the Douro and its reputation is based on our constant concern for expressing the full intensity, richness and complexity of our wines. All the vines in the Rozès vineyard are A-rated, the best quality on a A to F scale. Quinta de Monsul, a Rozès estate in the Douro Valley, has ultra modern facilities used for the entire winemaking process. After grapes picking, pellicular maceration occurs in "lagares" (shallow treading tanks) and then alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The key step for the elaboration of port wines is the interruption of fermentation by the addition of a neutral distilled grape spirit at 77% ABV. Rozès produces red & white ports, vintage, tawny or old ports, blends of selected wines & selected harvests. They are sold once they're approved and get certification from IVDP (Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e Porto).
