Domaine d'Aupilhac Lou Maset Rouge is a 2023 red from the Coteaux du Languedoc in southern France. It is a blend of Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, Alicante Bouschet and Aramon.
Three generations of the Fadat family have farmed the eighteen-hectare lieu-dit of Aupilhac in the village of Montpeyroux, across the river Hérault from Daumas Gassac and Grange des Pères. The terraced vineyards sit at almost 1200 feet, facing southwest, on soils rich in prehistoric oyster fossils. Sylvain Fadat registered the domaine as a vigneron indépendant in 1989. He has terraced steep, rocky land in the Cocalières amphitheatre himself, farms organically, and plows regularly so roots reach deeper into the soil. He believes work in the vineyard shapes quality more than work in the cellar. Their wines balance ripe fruit with silky tannins.
