Domaine Giacometti Cru des Agriate Patrimonio Rouge is a 2022 red from Corsica, made from Nielluccio and Grenache. It comes from vines in the Agriate Desert, in the north of the island, where clay-granite soils let the roots search deep for water and nutrients.
The Giacometti family moved to this arid, wind-swept area between Cap Corse and Calvi in 1987 and took over vines planted in 1966. The estate sits several miles from the village of Patrimonio, yet its vines were granted Patrimonio status. Constant plowing is needed to keep the vines going against the hot, dry Libecciu wind. The family has long made a generous, approachable style of Patrimonio, like the wine traditionally served by the pitcher at Corsican tables. Founder Christian Giacometti is passing the estate to his daughter Sarah and son Simon, who are also experimenting with the rare Sciaccarellu.
