Fattoria di Sammontana Alberese Rosso Toscano is a red wine from Tuscany, Italy, made almost entirely from Sangiovese with a touch of Trebbiano. The blend is a nod to the old tradition that made Trebbiano a compulsory component of any Chianti blend.
The vines and olive groves of Sammontana sit in Montelupo, along the hill that borders the valley of the Arno river. The property and its 12th century Romanesque church once belonged to the Medici family, then passed to the canons of San Lorenzo in Florence, who built the underground cantinas and a furnace for making terracotta pottery. In 1870 a Polish nobleman, Michele Dzieduszycki, bought the estate. His son Maurizio settled permanently in Tuscany, and Maurizio's son Massimo developed the property into an estate devoted to quality wine and olive oil.
