This is a non-vintage sparkling wine from Savoy in the western Alps of France. André & Michel Quenard make it in the méthode champenoise, and it is the only sparkling cuvée among the eight wines they bottle. The minerality of their vineyards gives their wines an alpine freshness and liveliness.
Michel Quenard farms twenty-two hectares on the steep, terraced slopes of the Coteau de Torméry around Chignin, where limestone scree creates varied soils. His grandfather started the domaine in the 1930s and sold most of the wine in bulk. Michel's father, André, began bottling under the family label in 1960. Michel joined in 1976, and his son Guillaume now works alongside him. Despite the Alps nearby, the vineyards have a warm, south-facing microclimate, with fig and olive trees among the vines.
