Anselmo Mendes is recognised not only for the excellence of the wines he produces but also for the surprising and consistent way he innovates. Combining the use of age-old techniques, such as fermentation on skins, with bold winemaking methods such as the fermentation of Alvarinho in oak casks, he is established in Portugal and abroad with an original design and his own identity. Anselmo Mendes wines are the result of a long, faithful connection to the land, an experimentalist and studious spirit and a philosophy of respect for the ecosystem that translates into methods of integrated production. 1987 - Beginning of the study of fermentation and barrel ageing 1997 - Acquisition of an estate in Melgaco 1998 - Production of the first wine - Muros de Melgaco - the result of studies conducted in previous years 1999 - Start of the studies and experiments on "fermentation on skins" 2001 - Launch of the first Alvarinho Curtimenta and the well-known "Muros Antigos" label 2005 - Beginning of work with the Loureiro grape variety 2008 - Creation of the new winery in Melgaco, and start of the restructuring of the vineyards at Quinta da Torre, in Moncao 2009- Birth of the most iconic wine - Parcela Unica - the fruit of the study of plots and different soils 2010 - Beginning of the restructuring of vineyards in the Lima Valley with the Loureiro grape variety 2017 - Anselmo Mendes is the producer with the largest Alvarinho area in Moncao and Melgaco
