Baron-Fuente Grand Reserve Brut is a non-vintage Champagne blended from 60% Pinot Meunier, 30% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir. The base wines come from 2011, 2010 and 2009. First fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by full malolactic fermentation. After the second fermentation in bottle, it ages on the lees for 3 years before dégorgement, with a dosage of 9 g/l. It shows fine balance and texture, with subtle peach, blanched almond, biscuit, mineral and light spice.
The Baron family has owned land in Champagne since the 17th century. Gabriel and Dolores Baron-Fuenté founded the house in 1967, and their children Sophie and Ignace now work alongside them. Ignace is the winemaker. The domaine farms 38 hectares near Charly-sur-Marne, in the western Marne valley, using sustainable practices. Grapes are hand picked, 96% come from their own vineyards, and Pinot Meunier leads the house style.
