Boira is a certified organic winemaking project between an Italian producer, Cantine Volpi, and the largest importer and agent for organic wines in the U.K., Bottle Green. Bottle Green already has successful organic projects in Argentina, Australia, France and Spain. After much research, Bottle Green and Volpi decided on 3 regions specific regions, the Marches, Abruzzo and Sicily. These areas were chosen because of their ideal conditions for growing organically cultivated vines. Only 1000 hectoliters have been produced. The first vintage produced was 2001. This project is a return to the past when the use of chemicals and fertilizers did not exist and producers had more respect for nature and natural processes. Each vineyard area has been specially researched and selected. The juice is then brought to the Volpi Cantina in Piedmont where Carlo Volpi oversees their vinification and bottling in his state of the art cellars. All 4 estates are certified organic under EEC law. Boira is the high end line and ERA the more economical. The name ERA means "as it was."
