This is the 2024 Borgo del Tiglio Collio Malvasia Italo & Bruno, a white wine made from Malvasia in the Collio appellation of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy.
Nicola Manferrari trained in pharmacology, a path that followed family tradition more than passion. When his father died in 1981, he took over his father's "hobby": 5 hectares of land, 3 of them planted with vines. There he found his calling. He felt his way through winemaking on instinct, and later learned that many techniques he thought he had invented were common elsewhere in Europe. He was the first in Friuli to use bilateral Guyot pruning, only to find it was widely used in the Loire. He then taught himself French to read viticulture texts such as F. Champagnol's "Phisiologie de la Vigne." With his background in chemistry and biology, he lets his palate decide how to guide the wines.
