Prunent Nebbiolo Superiore is a 2021 red wine from the Valli Ossolane appellation in Piedmont, Italy. It is made from Prunent, the old local form of Nebbiolo. DNA analysis confirms it as the most ancient Nebbiolo on Earth. The vineyards are on average hundreds of years old and sit high on the mountainsides.
Cantine Garrone is in the Val d'Ossola, a secluded Alpine valley in far northern Piedmont near the Simplon Pass and the Swiss border. The family-owned winery is the only cooperative winemaking and selling facility for the many mountain growers on these steep slopes. In the 1990s, about 60 local growers joined with Cantine Garrone to recover and clean up the old vineyards and restart production of this historic wine. Their work led Italy to create the Valli Ossolane DOC in 2009, the northernmost appellation in Piedmont.
