Les Perrières is a 2021 Bourgueil red from the Loire Valley, made from Cabernet Franc. The wild berry fruit is intense and sweet like a candy bar, even though the wine is dry and stony.
Catherine and Pierre Breton farm eleven hectares of vines in the village of Restigné, just east of Bourgueil. They make Chinon and Bourgueil, plus a bit of Vouvray. They received organic certification in 1991, introduced biodynamic practices in 1994, and have recently begun the three-year process of seeking biodynamic certification. Their vineyards sit on gravel, limestone, clay, schist, and yellow tuffeau. Pierre is the principal cellar master, while Catherine makes a series of cuvées under the label La Dilettante.
