This non-vintage Champagne is made entirely from Chardonnay. The name, Quintette 5 Terroirs, points to its Champagne origin, and it comes from the house of J M Sélèque.
J M Sélèque began in 1965, when Henri Sélèque planted his first vines with help from his father-in-law, Jean Bagnost, then president of the Pierry wine cooperative. His son Richard started making Champagne at the estate in 1974 and added modern equipment, and production reached 50,000 bottles in the 1990s. Jean-Marc, the third generation, joined in 2008. Today the estate farms 7.5 hectares across seven villages in the Marne valley and the Côte des Blancs, planted 60% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Meunier and 10% Pinot Noir. The soils are turned to encourage root development and microbial life, and a team of five does the vineyard work by hand throughout the year.
