This is a non-vintage Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs from Champagne, France, made entirely from Chardonnay. The name points to Montgueux.
Champagne Gonet was founded in 1802, and six generations of the family have run the house since. In 1973 Michel Gonet, whose name the Champagnes carry, modernised and expanded the cellars with the aim of improving winemaking quality. Today the house farms 40 hectares in the Côte des Blancs, from the Grand Cru villages of Avize, Oger and Le Mesnil sur Oger south of Epernay to the hillsides of Sezanne and Vindey. About 20% of their grapes are Pinot Noir, grown in Fravaux near Bar sur Aube and used for Rosé, and the rest is Chardonnay. Michel Gonet has retired, and his daughter Sophie now leads the house.
