Chateau Sainte-Marie is located in the middle of the prime wine-growing Entre-deux-Mers area between the Dordogne and Garonne rivers. The ideally oriented plots stretch across two hills with perfect exposure to the sun on some of the highest land in the Gironde departement. The ยซAliosยป plot, located 8 kms (5 miles) from Sainte-Marie, totals 14 hectares (341/2 acres) of clayey gravel soils. Loic Pasdois joined the team during the summer 2003, he is in charge of the vineyard management. His experience and his passion combined to his youth and his environmental ecological knowledge : he his definitely someone you will have to deal with at Sainte Marie. He his assisted in his technical functions by Fabien Cornet. ๏ฟผ Laurence Dupuch, Stephanie Vincent and Catherine Guegan are the good spirits in the office. They share their time and abilities between Sainte Marie and their families thanks to a subtle and efficient balance. A MOSAIC OF EXCEPTIONAL TERROIR Our search of the exception made us leave the geographical limits of the property to find and select small islands/spots located several kilometers away : Alios 8 km, Pierre Creusee 4 km This selection, result of a rigorous geological investigation undertaken in co-operation with Xavier Chone (ENITA, Bordeaux) enabled us to join together sanctuarized soils (with exclusive wine vocation), offering characteristics which seemed essential and necessary to us to produce great Bordeaux wines. Located on different places our terroirs are above all complementary : Alios, located 8 km from Sainte Marie where we practically recreated a vineyard on 14 Ha : we were happy to find heavy clayey graves . The old vines, located around Sainte Marie in Targon are the cradle of our passion (around 25 Ha). They offer mostly clay and chalk. At Pierre Creusee on the village of Capian we found wonderful limestone right at the surface. The plot of the Moulin (mill) offers, a beautiful panorama over the Entre-deux-Mers and some heavy clay, determining in our qualitative strategy. Some of these terroirs had not seen a vine for more than a century, so we turned ourselves towards a clean and environment respectful production process. For a clean and lasting agriculture we work according the TERRA VITIS rules. We think that a planting density between 5000 to 10 000 vines/Ha (i-e 6 to 10 buds/vines) and some traditional cultural methods, are the only valuable means to produce high quality grapes. These antique methods find again today a legitimacy, in the production of great Bordeaux wines.
