This is a 2024 white Sancerre from the Loire Valley in France, bottled as Marcel Henri Demise Lieu Dit Champs d'Aligny by Daniel Chotard.
Daniel Chotard and his wife, Brigitte, live in the village of Reigny, just outside Sancerre. The Chotard family has made wine for well over two hundred years, though Daniel started out as a teacher before accepting the family vocation. He and his son Simon farm the slopes of Crezancy-en-Sancerre, where flint meets clay and Kimmeridgian limestone. They farm sustainably and treat the vines with organic composts. Daniel harvests later than his neighbors, which gives less of the acidity typical of the appellation, and aging on the lees rounds the mid-palate. He describes his wines as luscious and complex, with long finishes.
