Domaine Arretxea Irouleguy Cuvée Haitza is a 2021 red wine from Irouleguy in the Basque country of Southwest France. It is made from Tannat and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Arretxea, meaning "the stone house," is a six-hectare domaine run by Michel Riouspeyrous, a native Basque, and his Alsatian wife Thérèse. They began by renting two hectares of vineyards, in a region where most remaining growers sold to the local cooperative. Since 1993 they have used no chemicals, pesticides or synthetic sprays. After organic certification they moved on to biodynamics. The Riouspeyrous work together in the vineyard, the cellar and their small tasting room. They have closely studied the mosaic of soils and aspects across their parcels, which they credit for the character of their wines.
