Domaine Chignard Fleurie Les Moriers is a 2023 Gamay from Fleurie in Beaujolais. The name recalls the time when Gamay vines were pulled out and replaced with mulberry trees to feed silkworms for Lyon's silk industry. The vines returned after the silk trade faded, and the parcel is regarded as the finest in Fleurie. This bottling comes from old vines in the heart of the parcel and offers a generous mouthful of Gamay fruit with a touch of distinction.
Michel Chignard, a fourth-generation vigneron, handed the domaine to his son Cédric in 2007. Their eight hectares of vines are over sixty years old, which keeps yields naturally low, and their deep roots reach minerals in the granite subsoil. The Chignards defend traditional Beaujolais methods and work with a minimalist approach in both vineyard and cellar.
