This is a 2023 Pinot Noir from Rully 1er Cru in Burgundy, France, made by Domaine A. & P. de Villaine.
Aubert de Villaine, co-director of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, and his American wife, Pamela, settled in Bouzeron in the Côte Chalonnaise in the 1970s and took over a badly rundown domaine. They farm three appellations: Bouzeron for Aligoté, Rully for Chardonnay and Mercurey for Pinot Noir. Their vineyards are worked organically and biodynamically, and they ferment their Mercureys in wood cuves, a style taken from DRC. Aubert's advocacy helped Bouzeron earn its own A.O.C. in 1997. His nephew, Pierre de Benoist, now directs the domaine. Decanter named Aubert its Man of the Year in 2010.
