This 2022 red from Bandol in Provence is made from Mourvèdre, Grenache and Cinsault, from vines that average 30 years old. The grapes are partially de-stemmed and each variety is vinified separately. Fermentation lasts three weeks in stainless steel with pumpovers twice a day, and the wine is then aged 18 months in foudre.
Alain Pascal started Domaine du Gros'Noré in 1997, after his father Honoré died. Before that, the family sold their fruit to Domaine Ott and Château de Pibarnon. Alain farms sixteen hectares around La Cadière d'Azur with his brother, Guy, on clay and limestone soils near the Mediterranean, where the Mistral tempers the sun. He lets the grapes ripen fully on the vine. Bandol law requires at least 50 percent Mourvèdre in each blend, and Alain uses 80 percent for more power and concentration.
