La Papesse is a 2024 Côtes du Rhône red made from Grenache. It is fermented with indigenous yeasts from partially de-stemmed grapes, which macerate for 15 days in wood tank. The wine then ages for 12 months in barrique.
Domaine Gramenon was created in 1978 in Montbrison-sur-Lez in Drôme Provençale, at 350 m altitude in the most northern part of the southern Côtes du Rhône. Their soils combine limestone with sandy layers left by an ancient sea, and clay left by the river system. Many Grenache parcels are 50 to 120 years old, and new vines come from massal selection. The vineyard has been farmed naturally and organically since 1978. After climate setbacks in the 2000s, they moved to biodynamics and earned DEMETER certification in 2010. Picking is manual, with careful selection.
