This is the 2025 Cuvée Marylou from Domaine Guy Breton, a red Beaujolais-Villages made from Gamay in France.
Guy Breton, known to friends as Petit Max, took over the family domaine from his grandfather in 1986. Until then the family sold its fruit to large cooperatives. He joined Marcel Lapierre, Jean-Paul Thévenet, and Jean Foillard in a back-to-nature movement that Kermit dubbed the Gang of Four, following the example of Jules Chauvet. They returned to old vines, no synthetic herbicides or pesticides, late harvests, rigorous sorting, minimal or no sulfur dioxide, and no chaptalization or filtration. Breton farms three hectares (7.2 acres), eighty percent in Morgon around Villié-Morgon, with vines from 8 to 80 years old. His plots in the "Saint-Joseph" and "Grand Cras" microclimates have soil with a naturally low pH, which suits his sulfur-free vinification.
