Domaine Huber-Verdereau Volnay Les Lurets 2020 is a 100% Pinot Noir from Burgundy, at 13% alcohol. It comes from the oldest vines of the domaine, planted in 1943 by Thiebault Huber's grandfather in the Robardelle vineyard near Meursault. Les Lurets comes from the village-level part of that site, and the INAO required Huber to use this name instead of the climat name. The small bunches give very concentrated fruit. Grapes are picked by hand, sorted twice, and fermented 30% whole cluster after a 6-day cold maceration. The wine aged 16 months in Allier oak, 10% new.
Thiebault Huber banned fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides from the day he took over the estate. He applied organic principles fully from 2001, began biodynamic courses in 2003, and the whole vineyard was certified by Demeter and Ecocert in 2005. In the cellar he barely touches his wines, preferring infusion to extraction and older wood to new.
