Le Fé Noir is a Muscadet Sèvre et Maine from the Loire Valley, made from Melon de Bourgogne. It comes from century-old vines on the estate's best terroirs on the Coteaux de la Sèvre, planted in shallow soil over gneiss and orthogneiss. The grapes are hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed, then fermented with natural yeasts for 3 to 4 weeks. The wine is aged 10 months on its lees in small stoneware jars, which keeps it fresh while adding texture and body. It is generous and expressive, with a ripe bitter finish and notes of praline.
Domaine La Haute Févrie lies 18 km south-east of Nantes, and the Branger family has worked it for four generations. Claude and Sébastien Branger farm 30 hectares on the slopes of the Sèvre, split into several individual plots, and are converting to organic. Their wines are vegan.
