THE ESTATE: Removed from the main roads, the village of L’Etoile was designed to sleep peacefully in a nest of greenery, though its famous wines were not responsible for his fame. Since July 31, 1937, among the first in France, L’Etoile obtained by the quality of its white wines, the AOC. This is scrutinizing, not in heaven, but the ground that historians have solved the problem of his name. The winemaker meeting under its amount of fossil tool in the form of rosettes with five branches, sometimes isolated as finely crafted jewelry menus, sometimes superimposed on each other in chains of varying lengths, which are only the remains of ancient trees probably large. A scientist tells you: “This is the encrine and is secondary.” But the average grower of L’Etoile, which looks more like a beautiful walk poulsard as echinoderms Triassic, more familiar harvest time as geological eras will tell you: “It is the L’Etoile that is not high at all.” The Vineyard: The Jura vineyards date back to the ancient times. In the nineteenth century, before the phylloxera crisis, there were more than 40 varieties of 20,000 hectares. Today the area is 1850 hectares spread over four geographical appellations ( Arbois , Cotes du Jura, L’Etoile , Chateau- Chalon ) plus two AOC products Macvin Jura and Cremant du Jura . The wines are from the following five varieties: Chardonnay and Savagnin, Poulsard, Trousseau and Pinot Noir. The vineyard extends from north to south of the department a hundred kilometers to Revermond ou Bon-Pays. It rests on a limestone subsoil and mainly consists of blue marl, gray or red. Home of Pasteur (father of modern l’oenologie), in 1936 Arbois became the first AOC in France. The range of Jura wines are exceptional. Indeed, for designations Arbois and Cotes du Jura there are all kinds of wine and all colors: Pink, Red, White, Yellow, Straw, without forgetting the Macvin, Cremant, the Marc and Fine. Note that the L’Etoile specializes in whites and Chatea-Chalon in the production of Vin Jaune. Augustus was the first VANDELLE that moved to the l’Etoile in 1883. Six generations later, Philip saw the same passion for this land. He paced the field with his father, in the footsteps of his grandfather, Joseph. Thus, from father to son they passed the secrets of controlling the size of the ripening of the grapes, the fermentation and aging. A worthy heir to this tradition, Philippe VANDELLE offers wines of tradition and great care. 13 hectares in AOC l’Etoile, Philippe VANDELLE is careful to respect the environment and is a follower of the rational protection. The planting operation is made up of 60% Chardonnay, 30% Savagnin, 10% red grapes (Pinot Noir, Trousseau, Poulsard). Le Mont Morin overlooks the village and is the birthplace of the vineyards. Its remarkable sunshine, soil and white marl upper Lias make these hills the stomping ground of Savagnin and gives it a unique character. Philippe VANDELLE is qualified in integrated farming, which involves adherence to strict specifications. There are more than 40 standards to be met, such as traceability, safety, waste management, soil management and plant protection. Under the control of the State, this qualification is validated by Qualite France SA and valid for 5 years with a visit unannounced control. In short, it is a state of mind of serving our food and our environment.
