The 2023 Bel Air is a Pinot Noir from the Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru appellation in Burgundy, France. It comes from an airy site above Clos de Bèze on oolitic limestone, and is high-toned, aromatic, and mineral.
Domaine Taupenot-Merme is based in Morey St Denis. Jean Taupenot and Denise Merme founded it in 1963, and their children Romain and Virginie Taupenot now run it. Romain merged the family's two estates in 1998 and moved from lutte raisonnée to organic viticulture in 2001. The domaine farms 13 hectares across 20 appellations. Fermentation is natural with indigenous yeasts, and the wines age 12 to 14 months on fine lees without racking, with 30% new oak for 1er Crus. They are bottled without fining or filtration.
