Saurus Pinot Noir comes from Patagonia, Argentina. Strong winds keep the berries healthy, and the small, thick-skinned fruit gives wines with good aroma, color and natural acidity. This one is medium red, turning brick red with age, with aromas of flowers and red fruits and notes of strawberry and raspberry. Part of the wine is aged in French and American oak, with the rest in stainless steel, which adds fine touches of vanilla. It is round and fruity, with sweet tannins and moderate acidity.
Hermann Heinz Theodor Schroeder settled in Patagonia in 1927 and began working in wine. In 2001 his son Hermann started the current project, now run by his sons. Their estate sits at 39° South latitude, where the dry steppe has been turned into an oasis. The winery is built on a gentle slope above the vineyards, which allows gravity-flow winemaking.
