Giovanni Montisci Barrolu Vino Rosso is a 2023 red wine from Sardinia, Italy. The structured listing names Nebbiolo, but the producer's text describes a Cannonau (Grenache) house in Mamoiada, so the grape is left out here.
Giovanni Montisci farms just two hectares in Mamoiada, in the mountainous interior of Sardinia. He left work as a mechanic to tend small vineyard plots inherited from his wife's family, and bottled his first wine from the 2004 vintage. His organically farmed old vines, trained as alberello and grown up to 650 meters, ripen slowly through chilly nights. All of his wines are fermented spontaneously, aged in neutral wood, and bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal SO2. Their labels are inspired by Quintarelli.
