Orkney, Scotland - Highland Park's uncompromising approach to making single malt Scotch whisky manifests itself in the rich malty tones and subtle aromatic smoke of the 12 Year Old. Aged exclusively in the distillery's signature sherry seasoned oak casks, this whisky has a rich, full flavor with notes of heather honey, dried fruit, winter spices, and Seville oranges, ending with a gentle smoky finish.. Made in the remote Orkney Islands, this whisky-which Highland Park recently dubbed โViking Honourโ-is meant to evoke the spirit of those rugged Norsemen of yore. Marketing patter aside, the Orcadian peat makes for a floral, perfumey nose with just a hint of smoke-perfect for toting along on a camping trip and sipping by a fire you built with your own two hands.
Smokey and sultry aromas have notes of charred peach and smoked kindling. Grainy flavors start out spicy with a touch of clover honey undertone. The development leads to toasted walnuts and pine nuts and crispy oatmeal bars, with a whisper of smoke on the finish. - 2018 Ultimate Spirits Challenge
