Les Perrois is a 100% Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre in the Loire Valley, named for the piles of stones gathered by hand long ago to make planting vines possible. It comes from old vines, 60+ years, in the Bué vineyards of Chêne Marchand and Grand Chemarin, hand-picked at very low yields. Fermentation starts slowly with natural yeasts. 80% of the juice stays in tank and 20% goes into 400 liter Allier oak barrels, half new, with regular lees stirring over one year. The wine is pale gold with white peach and floral aromas, a rich, full mouthfeel and a long finish. It benefits from a little aging.
The Picard family have made wine in Sancerre since the 1600s. Their 14 hectare domaine is spread over 45 parcels around Bué, farmed sustainably and harvested by hand.
