Jean-Paul Thevenet Morgon Vieilles Vignes is a red Beaujolais made from Gamay in Morgon, France. It is structured and complex, with savory, meaty notes balanced by fresh cherry and blackberry fruit, and thyme and rosemary on the finish.
Charly Thévenet grew up the son of Morgon producer Jean-Paul Thévenet, one of the "Gang of Four" who helped revive traditional, more natural viticulture in Beaujolais in the early eighties. After working for his father and in Marcel Lapierre's winery, he bought a parcel of eighty-year-old vines in Régnié. He farms biodynamically with no synthetic herbicides, pesticides, or fungicides, harvests late with strict sorting, adds minimal sulfur dioxide, ages the wine in four-year-old Burgundian barriques, and bottles unfiltered.
