The 2022 Kuentz-Bas Trois Chateaux Eichberg Grand Cru Riesling is an elegant Alsace white. Lightly juicy acidity gives a bright frame for flavors of ripe green melon and blood orange, with a delicate streak of salinity, honey and spice. Trois Chateaux wines are fermented in stainless steel cuve, then bottled and held for a year before release.
Maison Kuentz-Bas was established by the Kuentz family in 1795 and took its current form when the Kuentz and Bas families joined in 1895. It sits in Husseren-les-Châteaux, one of the highest points in Alsace, with ten hectares of vineyards. Jean-Baptiste Adam bought the estate in 2004, lowered yields and moved to organic and biodynamic vineyard work. Winemaker Samuel Tottoli favors hard work in the vineyards, minimal work in the cellar, and low sulfur for drier, crisp, mineral wines.
