Grenache was most likely first planted in the Catalonia region of Northern Spain, and has grown to one of the most widely planted varietals in the world with classic Grenache- based wines coming from its native Spain, Southern France, Australia and of course the United States. Partly due to its geographic diversity and being planted in a wide- variety of climates, stylistically the wines can vary drastically and are often blended with other red varietals. Threemile Vineyard is located in The Dalles, Oregon, overlooking the southern banks of a drastic bend in the Columbia River, and in a unique climate zone that borders on dense forest to the West and desert to the East, creating extremely varied micro climates. With 30 degree diurnal temperature swings at the growing site, we are able to maintain freshness in our Grenache while still creating phenolic ripeness. Utilizing whole cluster fermentation and minimal pumpovers, we are able to create a wine that is light and fresh while complex and a true expression of the Grenache varietal, with a nod to some of our favorite Southern Rhone wines.
